Amazon parrots are yet another type of parrots that can mainly be found in the southern America up to Mexico and the Caribbean islands.
These parrots are mostly found in the wild, and are considered to belong to the 'larger' category of parrots. Yet, throughout the years, they were brought into captivity and can now be found in households, mainly due to their very vivid and joyful colors.
This type of parrots is usually very talkative, and as a matter of fact very energetic. Amazon parrots may require more attention than other parrots, mainly because they were not really meant to be kept as pets, so they need more distraction than the other genus.
It's also recommended that they are offered wooden toys as a time killer, which they would chew on just like they would do with small tree branches in the wild.
They like to eat raw fruits and different types of seeds (pumpkin will do).
Their only main problem is them being kind of aggressive when they are mating; they like to be left at ease during this critical period of the year.

Amazon parrots can be further sub classified. For instance, the Puerto Rican Amazon parrot (which can be mainly found in the Puerto Rican islands) is known for its dark green feathers and big white oval-shaped feathers around its eyes. They do also have a very distinctive red patch right on their forehead. They are much endangered and efforts are being done in order to preserve this specie.
The lilac-crowned Amazon parrot is yet another subtype. Its name is quiet descriptive, making it obvious that this parrot has a lilac/violet crown on the back of its head. In addition, the feathers that lie on its forehead are usually maroon. This parrot is not yet classified as endangered, yet it is believed that it may reach that status soon. It can mainly be found on the slopes of Mexico.
Orange-winged Amazon parrots on the other hand are characterized by orange stripes on their wings, blue stripes on their forehead and yellowish or whitish cheek feathers (also this is not as common as the other two colorings). It can be mainly found in Colombia, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago as well as Brazil.
These were some of the types of Amazon parrots one can find. In reality, there are more than a dozen other, some being much endangered, and a couple others (such as the Martinique Amazon and the Guadeloupe Amazon) which are by now believed to be unfortunately extinct.
